Privacy Policy & Terms of Use

Last updated: June 2026

Canoe Compass values your privacy and strives to be transparent about how data is used. You can browse the map without creating an account, but an account is required to create, save, edit, or share trips.

When you create an account or sign in, we may process account information such as your email address, user ID, and profile information provided by your sign-in method. Trip information you create, including trip names, dates, party size, notes, selected map features, drawn routes, visibility settings, and sharing access, is stored using a secure backend service.

We may also store limited information in your browser, such as map view, layer visibility, sidebar state, and other interface preferences. This local storage is used to improve your experience and is not the sole storage location for saved trip data.

We use trusted third-party service providers to host the site, manage authentication, store trip data, and provide analytics. We use minimal analytics to understand overall traffic patterns and improve site performance. Analytics are not intended to collect detailed personal trip-planning contents.

You control the visibility of your trips. Private trips are intended to be visible only to you and users you share them with. Unlisted or public trips may be viewable by others depending on the visibility setting you choose. If you share a trip with another user, that user may be able to view or edit the trip based on the access you grant.

By using this website, you agree to do so responsibly and at your own risk. Map and geographic data may contain errors or omissions, and the site and its creators make no warranties regarding accuracy, reliability, or completeness. Always verify route, permit, campsite, portage, and safety information with official sources before your trip.

All content and features are provided “as is.” You retain ownership of trip information you create, but grant Canoe Compass permission to store, process, display, and share that information as necessary to provide the site’s features. Continued use of this site constitutes acceptance of these terms.
